What is MLD?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, slow, and rhythmical technique performed with the therapist’s hands directly on the skin. No oils are used – it is purely skin‑to‑skin contact. This specialised method is designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping fluid move more effectively through the body.

Unlike the currently popular “lymphatic drainage massage,” MLD is a recognised medical treatment. When performed correctly, it is deeply relaxing by calming the nervous system, supports the body’s natural healing processes and reduces pain.

Comfortable and pain‑free: MLD should never feel painful or uncomfortable. The light touch is essential because lymphatic vessels lie just beneath the skin’s surface.

Targeted fluid movement: The technique helps move excess fluid away from areas of swelling or congestion, guiding it back into the bloodstream where toxins and waste products can be naturally eliminated.

Specialist care: Because the lymphatic system is complex, MLD should always be carried out by a trained professional who can tailor treatment to your individual health history and needs.

In safe, skilled hands, MLD offers both therapeutic benefits and a soothing, restorative experience.
